Second row Donncha O’Callaghan is the latest Munster player to fall victim to injury with the lock suffering a knock to the knee in Saturday’s 16-22 defeat to Leinster.
He was forced off just before the hour mark in Thomond Park after picking up the injury, with Billy Holland coming on in his place.
The Munster medical team today confirmed the injury will need further examination before the extent of the damage can be revealed but he is unlikely to feature in Friday’s RaboDirect PRO12 meeting with the Dragons in Rodney Parade.
With Donnacha Ryan also nursing a shoulder injury, Rob Penney will be hoping O’Callaghan’s niggle doesn’t prove too serious, as his squad gear up for a Heineken cup semi-final showdown with Clermont Auvergne on April 27.
Munster trained at the University of Limerick today but many regular starters sat out the session and are expected to be rested this weekend ahead of the crucial European fixture.
Rob Penney confirmed that Keith Earls (shoulder) continues to make good progress but is unlikely to be involved this weekend and the same applies to Doug Howlett who is suffering a shoulder injury sustained in the game against Glasgow.
Sean Dougall (knee) and Luke O'Dea (wrist) continue to be ruled out of consideration.
