Pizza delivery chain Domino’s said today it would create up to 1,500 jobs in the UK and Ireland in the next year.
The company, which holds a master franchise from Domino’s Inc in the US to operate the brand in the UK and Ireland, is planning 50 new stores this year as part of a wider target of 500 by 2006.
The chain is setting its sight firmly on the North of England, where it is currently under-represented with only 37 stores out of a total of 280 throughout the UK and Ireland.
Domino’s, which employs 6,600 people through franchises across the UK and Ireland, made record sales last year, with the average branch making around £9,100 per week.
Its expansion plans, which ultimately aim to see 800 branches in the medium to long term, are underpinned by research which said the home pizza market would double in size by 2010.
The figure of up to 1,500 new jobs in the next year is based on the current average of 25 to 30 staff employed at each branch.
