Jean-Marie Le Pen says he fears he is an assassination target.
The French presidential election candidate says he's taking "all possible precautions" with his personal security in the run-up to Sunday's vote.
Mr Pen claims he has become a "factor of national unity" because groups as varied as Communists and business leaders have all allied against him.
"My long experience in this domain causes me to worry about everything," Mr Le Pen told France-Soir newspaper.
"In the current debate, the assassination of Le Pen has started to be discussed. It's everybody against Le Pen - we've finally found the reason for France's stagnation," he said.
"All of it is the fault of Le Pen - and if we eliminate him, everything will be just fine."
"I've become a factor of national unity," the 73-year-old added sarcastically.
The right wing extremist has been the object of massive daily protests since he beat Socialist premier Lionel Jospin for the right to runoff against Jacques Chirac.
