At least 12 people were killed and 27 wounded in clashes between Congo’s army and the militia of a former warlord, hospital officials said today.

The 12 bullet-ridden bodies were delivered to the capital’s central morgue, said the morgue’s director Toussaint Itali.

At Kinshasa’s General Hospital, chief surgeon Tombe Diabeno said the hospital was treating 27 wounded people, the majority of whom are women. Three women had to have their feet amputated due to the severity of the wounds, he said.
