Woodwork denies Hibs first-leg win

Hibernian were denied by the woodwork twice in their goalless UEFA Cup first round, first leg tie against Dnipro at Easter Road.

With just moments remaining of a hard fought first 45 minutes, midfielder Scott Brown drove his shot from 16 yards off the post, then late in the second half substitute Ivan Sproule slammed the post with his right-footed effort.

However, this was no classic hard luck story and in fact it was only two great first half saves from Hibs keeper Zbigniew Malkowski, both from visiting striker Sergei Kornilenko, which kept the impressive Ukrainians at bay in a game they controlled for long spells.
