John Lennon’s toilet sold for nearly 10 times its guide price at auction today.

The porcelain lavatory was used by the music legend for three years when he lived at Tittenhurst Park in Berkshire between 1969 and 1972.

It was expected to sell for just £1,000 (€1,200) but an overseas investor paid £9,500 (€11,500) for it at the 33rd annual Beatles Convention in Liverpool.

Fab Four expert and auction organiser Stephen Bailey said: “It is unbelievable.

“We had bids coming in from all over the place but it went to a private overseas buyer.”
