Newcastle remain confident of racing tomorrow despite calling a precautionary inspection for 8am.

Clerk of the course James Armstrong is not anticipating any major problems but feels it prudent to check in light of a chilly overnight forecast.

He said: “It’s very much a precautionary inspection. We are forecast a possible 0C overnight but that should not be too much of a problem.

“We have covered the vulnerable areas of the track and we will have a look just in case.

“The colder weather is forecast to move in on Tuesday night so we would be very unlucky not to race.”
