Darius Vassell put Aston Villa back on level terms with his 10th goal of the campaign against high-riding Chelsea at Villa Park.
Hernan Crespo had given Chelsea, showing eight changes from the side against Middlesbrough, control with his 10th goal of the campaign.
But Chelsea paid the penalty for taking their foot off the gas and Vassell punished them after Mario Melchiot had fouled Gareth Barry.
