Hendrix final hours to make big screen
The final hours of guitar legend Jimi Hendrix’s life are to be turned into a movie by the award-winning director of Bloody Sunday, it was announced today.
Crosstown Traffic will focus on the last few days prior to his death in London in 1970 from choking on his own vomit.
Paul Greengrass, whose Bloody Sunday docu-drama has been nominated for a string of film and TV prizes, is to make the film, named after one of Hendrix’s best-known tracks.
Film-makers have not yet cast the title role and a spokesman said they had an “open mind” about who would fit the role.
Hendrix was just 27 when he died but had already established himself as one of the most talented musicians of his generation.
With his band the Jimi Hendrix Experience he scored four top 10 hits during his lifetime including Hey Joe and Purple Haze.
Crosstown Traffic is to be produced by film-makers who worked on homegrown hits such as Little Voice and The Crying Game.
