Hunt continues for UK shooting suspect
British armed police are hunting a man they believe shot his ex-girlfriend, killed her partner and blasted a policeman.
Raoul Thomas Moat, 37, was released from prison on Thursday but two days later he allegedly went on the rampage, firing at Samantha Stobbart, shooting dead her boyfriend Chris Brown and leaving a policeman fighting for his life.
The former nightclub bouncer, who mistakenly believed Miss Stobbart was having an affair with an officer, then called police to say they were not taking him seriously. On Sunday, detectives warned him: "This must stop now."
The manhunt has now entered its third day amid fears the suspected killer might try to commit "suicide by cop".
Miss Stobbart's half-sister Kelly Stobbart claimed Moat would rather "go out in a blaze of glory" than give himself up, and she said family members were "terrified" he would come after them.
Miss Stobart, 22, is in a critical condition following the attack in Birtley, Gateshead, in the early hours of Saturday. The police officer - Pc David Rathband - was being treated at Newcastle General Hospital. His family was at his bedside.
Detectives believe the triple shooting was sparked by a grudge against the couple which developed into a vendetta against the police.
Moat is understood to have fired at Miss Stobbart - with whom he had a six year on-off relationship - through the living room window of a house in the Scafell area.
Moments later Mr Brown, 29, is believed to have left the property - only to be struck down around 50 metres from the front door.
Northumbria Police confirmed firearms officers from other forces were drafted in to help in the search for Moat.
Overnight, a large-scale operation was launched, involving a large number of officers including specialist search teams, armed response units, the force helicopter and dog handlers.
