Pen still works after 25 years in woman's stomach

A pen removed from a woman's stomach after 25 years still works.

Doctors discovered the item when they X-rayed a 76-year-old woman, who explained she had accidentally swallowed the pen a quarter of a century ago while "interrogating a spot on her tonsil".

She said medical staff and her husband did not believe her at the time and the pen had stayed inside her ever since.

The pen has now been removed. A doctor successfully wrote "Hello" with the item, before he explained in his case notes: "It may be worth believing the patient’s account however unlikely it may be."
