Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will be one of the stars of Euro 2004 according to his Arsenal counterpart Patrick Vieira.

The pair, who play in a similar midfield role for their respective clubs, are set to come up against each other in the group stages in Portugal next summer when England face France, and Vieira is full of respect for the Reds star.

“I am a big fan of Steven Gerrard. We play in the same position and he’s a very talented player,” Vieira said on the Reds’ official website, www.liverpoolfc.tv.

“He has all the things he needs to be one of the best – strength, range of passes and tackling.

“He has improved a lot in the last two years and becoming captain has helped as well.

“He is not afraid of the responsibility and he can be one of the big stars in the finals next year.”
