Grands Crus heads a stellar cast of nine entries for the williamhill.com Feltham Novices’ Chase at Kempton on St Stephen's Day.
David Pipe’s talented grey has made a big impression in winning both his starts over fences this season since being switched from hurdling.
However, the six-year-old has not scared off the opposition for the Grade One contest over three miles when the entries were revealed after the race had been re-opened.
His potential rivals include Nicky Henderson’s game Newbury winner Bobs Worth while champion trainer Paul Nicholls has easy Wincanton scorer Silviniaco Conti.
The other possibles are the Martin Keighley-trained Champion Court, Sue Smith’s Mr Moonshine, the Jamie Snowden-trained Graduation Night, Tim Vaughan’s Saint Are, Rebecca Curtis’ Teaforthree and Emmaslegend from Suzy Smith’s stable.
Pipe reports Grands Crus to be on target for Kempton and believes there is more improvement to come, especially when he encounters soft ground.
“We’re having him scoped tomorrow to make sure everything is OK and as long as the ground is OK as well the plan is to run,” Pipe told At the Races.
“I don’t think going right-handed is going to be a problem. He’s been straight enough in his races. I think he’ll be OK.
“It’s a good race but don’t forget he hasn’t had his favoured conditions yet.
“He’s been racing on good to soft ground, but he does prefer soft ground, so whatever he’s been doing so far hopefully there’s more to come as well.”
