Leading businessman Tadhg O’Donoghue has been reappointed as Chairman of the ESB for a further five-year period by the Government, it emerged today.
Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources Noel Dempsey paid tribute to Mr O’Donoghue’s work as he announced the move.
“Mr O’Donoghue has presided over the Board of ESB during a period of extraordinary change both within the company and the sector within which it operates,” he said.
“This includes the implementation of the PACT (Programme to Achieve Competitiveness and Transformation) agreement and the full liberalisation of the electricity sector.
“Under Mr O’Donoghue’s stewardship, the company has not only met these challenges fully but has also delivered consistently strong financial results and continued to meet the growing demand for electricity from industrial and domestic consumers.”
Mr O’Donoghue was first appointed to the ESB Board in September 2000 and he was made chairman in July 2001.
He was officially re-appointed as chairman on September 7, 2005 for a period of five years.
Mr O’Donoghue’s previous experience includes Senior International Partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Chairman of Bord Iascaigh Mhara and President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ireland.
