Pastures new for 'Off the Ball' team?

The presenters of Newstalk’s award-winning 'Off the Ball' sports show have resigned, the radio station confirmed today.

Newstalk presenter George Hook hinted that the team may be moving to a rival station.

“Newstalk has confirmed that Eoin McDevitt, Simon Hick, Ken Early, Ciaran Murphy and Mark Horgan have resigned from its sports department,” said an official statement from the station.

“Ger Gilroy, Newstalk Sports Editor, who devised Off the Ball in 2002, will be joined by mainstays of the Newstalk sports team - Cian Murtagh, David McIntyre and Joe Molloy - in taking over the running of the show, starting tonight.

“Newstalk would like to thank Eoin, Simon, Ken, Ciaran and Mark for their contributions to the station and wish them luck in their future endeavours.”

The show has won nine PPI awards, according to the show’s official Newstalk website, which has removed pictures of the presenters in the last few minutes.

The popular show has built a loyal following over the years and many fans used social media to express their alarm at the news.
