Four people have been killed and at least 100 are thought to be trapped in a cinema in India.

Part of the building collapsed in Calcutta following heavy rains.

According to reports, four bodies have been retrieved.

Firefighters are trying to rescue other members of the audience who were trapped when part of the Society Theatre collapsed.

The audience had been watching Hollywood movie Seduction.

According to the reports, part of the balcony collapsed soon after the evening show started.

A number of movie goers were reportedly standing under the balcony along with passers-by and hawkers who had taken shelter from heavy rains.

Deputy commissioner Banibrata Basu said: "We have rescued three injured people and they have been taken to the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital. But several people remain trapped inside the hall."

A hydraulic ladder is being used to reach inside the building as all the exits have been blocked by rubble.

Rescue operations are being hampered by vehicles parked near the cinema.
