Ross 'deeply sorry' for Sachs call

Jonathan Ross has publicly apologised for the lewd phone messages he and Russell Brand left for Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs.

Jonathan Ross has publicly apologised for the lewd phone messages he and Russell Brand left for Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs.

Sachs' granddaughter Georgina Baillie called today for the two to be sacked for making the calls.

She branded the high-earning presenters “cruel sickos” for leaving a series of crude messages on Sachs’ answerphone during a pre-recorded radio show.

Baillie, 23, also threatened that she could make an official complaint to police. She said she had slept with Brand, but would have expected that to remain a private matter.

Ross has now said in a statement: "I am deeply sorry and greatly regret the upset and distress that my juvenile and thoughtless remarks on the Russell Brand show have caused."

“I have not issued a statement previously because it was my intention and desire to offer an apology to all those offended on my Friday night programme.”

The BBC pulled the plug on the Friday Night With Jonathan Ross show just hours before it was due to be recorded tonight. It has suspended Ross and Brand.

Ross’s apology was issued through law firm Schillings.
