Tennis player disqualified after bizarre incident with line judge

Darian King was disqualified from the Charlottesville Men's Pro Challenger tournament in Virginia after what looked like an exaggerated reaction by a line judge during his match.

King was frustrated after losing a point and threw his tennis racquet at the tarpaulin surrounding the court. The tarp appeared to absorb most of the force from the throw, but the racquet glanced off the back of a nearby line judge before hitting the ground.

The blow from the, presumably lightweight, racquet doesn’t look as if it hurt, but the line judge crumpled very slowly to the ground.

King seemed baffled by the reaction, first going over to her before walking away shrugging.

He was immediately disqualified from the tournament, with the match awarded to his opponent Edward Corrie.
