Poll shows disapproval of Blair's Iraq policy

Well over half the British public disapprove of Tony Blair’s handling of the Iraq crisis, according to an opinion poll tonight.

The YouGov poll for ITV1’s Tonight with Trevor McDonald programme found that only 34% approved of his policy as against 58% who disapproved.

Among women the disapproval rating was even higher with just 24% backing Mr Blair as against 42% of men.

Nearly two-thirds – 65% – oppose committing British troops to a war with Iraq without a new United Nations resolution, with only 26% saying they would support such a course of action.

However, if there was a new resolution, 71% would support military action with only 22% still opposed.
