Tesco is to open a new €70m distribution centre at Donabate, north Co Dublin, bringing 600 jobs to the area.
The centre, which is due to open in April next year, will have a handling capacity of one million cases per week and will manage and distribute all packaged and processed grocery and some non-food products for Tesco’s network of 94 stores.
A total of 500 employees are to be recruited for the 600-job facility. Two hundred staff employed at contracted depots at Parkwest and Ballymount will be offered transfers. A further 300 workers at least will be recruited through a recruitment campaign while 100 staff will move from Tesco’s existing distribution centre in Ballycoolin.
Tesco Ireland boss Tony Keohane said recruitment for the new jobs will start immediately.
Since 1997, Tesco has opened 33 new or replacement stores across the country, increasing employment by more than 4,000 people to 12,500.
