Wasps coach Nigel Melville has cautioned Lawrence Dallaglio against taking part in this season's Six Nations campaign.
The former England skipper is still two months away from recovering full fitness after a cruciate operation during the summer.
But he was hopeful of relaunching his international career in the spring.
However, Melville has urged Clive Woodward to omit Dallaglio because he feels the player is not ready for such intense combat.
"Lawrence has had a very serious knee injury," Melville told a British tabloid.
"You don't recover from that in five minutes. He won't start playing with us until late January or early February at the earliest.
"Personally, I don't think England will want to rush him straight back.
"The game has picked up a pace since he last played. He needs to find that higher pace and adapt to it before even thinking about the international scene.
"I don't think he should target this season in an international sense."
