Croke Park stadium manager Peter McKenna has publicly apologised for the error that ruined the St Patrick's Day club finals for 2,500 fans.

The crowd were left stranded outside Croke Park as GAA chiefs were not prepared for the 38,500 fans that attended.

McKenna said: "We let everyone down - we spoilt their day and we are sorry about it. We only expected 17,000 or 18,000 if it was a rainy day and maybe 22,000 if it was fine."
