Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has dismissed reports that he has suffered a mild stroke in Italy.

Italian media say the stroke happened while Trapattoni was undergoing surgery in Milan last month, causing partial paralysis down his right side.

In a statement the 71-year-old has said he had a scheduled operation to clean the carotid artery on December 28, which he said went well.

He said he is recovering well at home and expects to return to work in the coming weeks.
