Interiors: What's in the shops?

Retailers are awash with trending summer products, with options for all budgets, writes Carol O’Callaghan.

We're all hoping for a repeat of last year’s glorious summer despite the predictions of mixed weather. While we’ll want to make the most of it when the sun shines, here are 20 fab buys to tempt you onto the high street or an online spree when the weather takes a nosedive.

If there’s an obliging pair of trees in the back garden, string up the Rika hammock from Made.com (from €28.99).

Stylish enough for indoors, robust for outdoors, the Debenhams Savanna tableware collection cites the trend for ethnic prints with a touch of ’70s retro (from €12 for two bowls, or four side plates).

Anything natural, as the antidote to plastic is on-trend, Next’s Rattan vase begs for a tree branch to give a touch of natural sculpture to a room (€32).

House plants are trending with a revival of the retro cheese plant — Homesense has a maintenance-free faux version in a wicker pot for the lesser green-fingered (€29.99).

What’s summer without a blowsy floral or two? Laura Ashley’s Floral Courtyard look includes pastel fabrics with leaf and bloom motifs on cushions and table napery (from €40 p/m).

Open up the TK Maxx hamper with four place settings and room for goodies, and dry off a woodland picnic table between showers (€39.99).

Check out the vintage-style Louis de Pootere rugs at Caseys with the trending look of faded patterns and distressed finishes which are lovely for contemporary and traditional interiors (from €169 for 80x150cm).

Italian fashion house Missoni is equally famous for its high-end home interior textiles. The Sabaudia Cilindro pouffé is finished in cotton satin with a shaded chevron print to give a rainbow effect (www.missoni.com — €493).

Tinted glass continues to trend

Dealz has a trio of delicately tinted tealight holders for dotting along the centre of a dinner party table (€1.49 each).

The Kitchen Craft double bladed mezzaluna cutter and acacia wood board is practical and a show-off piece of kitchen kit to give as a housewarming gift (www.amazon.co.uk — €28.95 ).

Our love of wallpaper shows no sign of decline. Cloudberry Living offers the Aurora 1790 with a modern take on florals, yet was designed in 1956. It also carries serious eco credentials in its manufacture (€81.96 p/roll).

The aliens have landed: A small boy runs riot on the moon to save us, or at least that’s what’s happening on Victoria Cramsie’s design The Final Frontier for Paper Boy, the wallpaper company she founded when she couldn’t find anything other than bunny and teddy patterns for her sons’ rooms (www.paperboy.co.uk — €68.30).

Neo mint is the colour predicted to trend for 2020. Kitchenware company Maxwell and Williams has teapots, tea caddies and coffee cannisters in this new shade, set to replace pink as the trending pastel (Tint teapot, €28.30, and Tint cannister, €14.95).

Just in case you’ve yet to buy a reusable coffee cup, Designist’s Stojo collapsible cup makes storage in the car or handbag really easy (€14).

For an alternative to terry towels, Designers Guild’s Moselle Alchemilla is a soft linen waffle weave, high on absorbency in neutrals and vivid primary colours (from €18 for a hand towel).

It’s the month for making elderflower cordial, but if you don’t have time, the Elderflower candle from the Crop range by La Bougie also has whiffs of gooseberry and caramel for added deliciousness (www.labougie.com — €16).

Meadows & Byrne’s go-to selection of textiles includes gorgeous citrus cushions with fringe detailing, perfect for scattering around the garden (€39.95 for the Popsicle Fringe).

Foxford, beloved of Irish housekeepers for decades, launches its Hotel range of sheets and pillowcases in 300-thread count Egyptian cotton neutrals, navy and delicate motifs (from €30 at Arnotts).

Danish brand JYSK, newly arrived in Ireland, has an outdoor furniture collection including the Idre table (€24.99) and Ubberup chair (€49.99). Both are patio-friendly and high on style.
