London Irish have revealed winger Scott Staniforth is to leave the Madejski Stadium and return to his native Australia because of a “pressing family health matter”.
Staniforth will continue his career with new Super 14 franchise Perth Force after the Exiles agreed to a transfer on compassionate grounds.
“We’ve done all that we can to keep Scott at the club but to no avail. He and his family are moving back to Australia to address a pressing family health matter,” said director of rugby Brian Smith.
“The club has negotiated a transfer with Perth Force and released him from his contract. He leaves with the thanks of all at London Irish for his great contribution to the club and best wishes for himself and his family back home.”
Staniforth has proved a huge success since joining the Exiles in July last year, scoring 13 tries in 34 appearances for the club and was named London Irish player of the season for 2004/05.
Irish have been searching for a replacement since agreeing a departure date for Staniforth and hope to unveil his replacement soon.
