Vets have found a type of bird flu among hundreds of dead birds in Ukraine’s Black Sea region of Crimea, the Agriculture Ministry said today.

It was the first reported case of the virus in the ex-Soviet republic.

The dead birds, mostly domesticated chickens and geese, tested positive for the H5 type.

They were found in the Crimea’s Sovetskiy and Nizhnegorskiy regions, said Oleksandr Horobets, spokesman for the Agriculture Ministry.
