Israeli soldiers shot dead a 19-year-old Palestinian man who entered a military base in the northern West Bank, Palestinian security officials said.

The Israeli military said the man, identified by Palestinians as Allah Khamtouni, was shot after he ignored soldiers’ warnings to stop.

Palestinian security officials said Khamtouni entered the Mevo Dotan base near the West Bank town of Jenin with nine other Palestinians who thought it had been evacuated.

The base is due to be dismantled in the next few days following Israel’s evacuation last month of the nearby Homesh and Sanur settlements as part of its “disengagement” plan.
