A host of top music performers, including Mercury Prize winners Franz Ferdinand, will come together for a concert to help the people of Sudan tonight.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees is staging the concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall to raise money for the people in Darfur, where 1.8 million people have been displaced.
Singer-songwriter David Gray, Pretenders singer Chrissie Hynde, Simply Red frontman Mick Hucknall, The Brand New Heavies and Róisín Murphy from Moloko will perform for free.
Most of the artists will perform the music of Cole Porter in their own style and will be accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.
A new song recorded for the event by Franz Ferdinand will be shown via video to the crowd. The Glaswegian band have also donated money to the cause.
Funds will be raised by ticket sales from the concert and online donations. The event will also be released on CD and DVD.
