Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI), in association with ESB Customer Supply, has commenced the search for the most energy-efficient firms on the island of Ireland.
Deadline for nominations is Friday, April 25.
The winners will be announced at a gala event in November 2008.
Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) is the statutory authority charged with promoting and assisting the development of sustainable energy.
It is funded by the Government under the National Development Plan, with programmes part-financed by the EU Commission.
In 2007, 100 participating companies demonstrated energy savings in excess of €23m.
Participation is expected to grow in 2008, as more and more businesses, including small businesses, become involved in energy saving actions.
Rising energy costs and the challenge of tackling climate change has encouraged many organisations throughout the country to pursue energy efficiency programmes in recent years.
Energy efficiency has become a key strategic business imperative for firms working to maintain competitiveness and at the same time taking proactive steps towards reducing carbon emissions.
This year’s Sustainable Energy Awards will recognise some of the achievements made by organisations across Ireland, who have already invested in addressing these challenges.
Now in their fifth year, the awards are intended to encourage, recognise and reward excellence in energy management in the industrial, commercial and public sectors, and attract entries from a diverse array of organisations throughout Ireland.
Brian Motherway, head of Industry, SEI said the diversity of the businesses entering the awards each year continued to expand and with it so too did levels of innovation, resourcefulness and fresh thinking being demonstrated by the entrants.
Last year SEI’s business programmes engaged almost 1,000 Irish businesses of all sizes and from all sectors.
