TV star Paul Daniels is planning to swap his magic tricks for an acting career.
The 65-year-old entertainer has been in talks with bosses of ITV1 soap Emmerdale about a cameo role, according to his agent.
Daniels has acted once before, when he stood in for Eric Sykes in a West End production of Moliere’s The School For Wives six years ago.
“Paul has been in discussions with the producers of Emmerdale and is hopeful that he will get a part,” his agent said.
“He really enjoyed his last acting job and got rave reviews, and now he’s keen to get into the acting business.
“He would love to appear in a soap and Emmerdale is perfect for him because he’s a northerner. But he would have nothing against appearing in EastEnders either.”
Daniels has also approached the makers of BBC hospital dramas Holby City and Casualty about making cameo appearances.
And it doesn’t end there – the diminutive entertainer reckons he’s got what it takes to become a movie star.
The agent added: “His dream would be a part in the next Harry Potter. If he had a magic wand he’d conjure himself up a great role.”
