Head of UK House of Lords urges UK and Irish Governments to make a Brexit plan
The head of a UK House of Lords committee is warning about the 'collateral damage' the island of Ireland could suffer if governments don't come up with a satisfactory plan for Brexit together.
The group's EU committee's releasing a report today describing the situation as a 'huge challenge' for this country.
It calls for a bilateral agreement between the two nations, covering issues like open land borders and trade, which would have to be approved by the EU.
Lord Boswell says the message for the two governments is clear: "Get on with it, not in secret, but em, start looking constructively at what might happen, on the understanding that the essential need is to remain on good relations, which are real and that nobody is interested in a hard border."
