Japanese team wins golden shovel in digging competition

A team of diggers from Japan have won the country's All-National Hole Digging Competition.

The winning team received 100,000 yen ($1,300) and a golden shovel after digging a hole 3.39 metres deep in 30 minutes.

More than a thousand people took part in the event on the outskirts of Tokyo, with awards given for the deepest and most creative hole as well as for the most original costume worn while digging.

The spectacle was held on a camping site and when it was completed staff refilled all the holes to allow the area to be used as a camping site again.
