Sligo Rovers 1 Bohemians 0
As he’d done in the opening match of the season, Adam Hughes scored the winner as Sligo made it three wins out of three against managerless Bohemians to regain fourth place in the Premier Division table.
Paul McTiernan won a free kick on the edge of the Bohs box with five minutes to play.
Winger Harpal Singh, who’d scored both goals in last week’s 2-0 win at Longford, brought a terrific parry save from Bohs keeper Stephen O’Brien.
But midfielder Hughes followed up to tap the dropping ball into the net.
In-form Sligo go two points ahead of champions Cork City who visit the Showgrounds for a mouthwatering clash on Tuesday night.
Both sides had earlier rattled the woodwork in a lively encounter.
The hardworking Darren Mansaram burst through on the Bohs goal on 57 minutes to blast a shot off the post.
Bohs substitute Stephen Ward was then unlucky at the other end on 77 minutes when he turned sweetly to hit a left-footer that came back off the Rovers’ crossbar.
