Australia‘s Robert Allenby led the way as he came to the end of his opening round at the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic.
The 40-year-old Victorian was six under par through the first 15 holes, putting him a shot clear unknown American Cameron Tringale on the par-71 course.
Jhonattan Vegas, an impressive Tour performer this year, was next on four under, with Jimmy Walker alongside him.
Two more Americans, Tommy Gainey and Jeff Overton were three under, the latter only seven holes into his opening round.
Stewart Cink was two under after eight, lurking ominously already, the same score as rising star Kyle Stanley who had played six.
Defending champion Ben Crane picked up a shot over his first 10 holes, as did Ricky Barnes through nine, with England‘s Brian Davis among a large cluster of players on par or one over.
Lucas Glover and Angel Cabrera suffered poor starts, though, with the former three over after 12 and the latter a disastrous five over after just nine.
