Troubled Britney shaves head

Pop star Britney Spears has shocked observers again, this time by sporting a shaved head.

She showed her new look when she dropped into a tattoo parlour in Los Angeles, swiftly attracting a crowd of curious passers by.

She went to the Body and Soul store to get a couple of tiny tattoos on her wrist, a pair of pink and red lips.

The surprising display came as the star was once more the subject of intense media scrutiny amid reports that she had checked in - and quickly out of - rehab.

Syndicated entertainment TV show "Extra" first reported that Spears, who has been criticised for partying too much recently, had gone into treatment.

Celebrity website TMZ.com then said the 25-year-old had gone into a treatment centre but checked out a day later. Neither revealed their sources.

People magazine's website, quoting "a source", said Spears had gone in and out of rehab, and identified the unit as Eric Clapton's Crossroads centre in Antigua, in the Caribbean. The reports have not been confirmed.

Spears horrified followers last year when she was repeatedly photographed flashing her groin on nights out.

The mother-of-two filed for divorce from wannabe rapper Kevin Federline in the autumn.
