Sixteen policemen were wounded in the Turkish capital Ankara today when a bomb exploded as a colleague tried to defuse it.
The device was left at a government training centre for prosecutors and judges. There was no claim of responsibility.
“Sixteen officers were wounded, two of them are in a critical condition,” Ankara Governor Yahya Gur said.
Many of the wounded officers had gathered to watch it being defused by the bomb disposal expert, who was not wearing any protective clothing.
Militant left wing and Islamic groups are active in Turkey and have carried out bombings in the past.
The policemen had arrived at the scene after a previous blast shattered the windows of the training centre.
They then found a bag they suspected might contain more explosives and carried it outside to examine it.
