Bolton goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen will remain at the Reebok Stadium next season after confirming he will honour the final year of his contract.

Jaaskelainen, 32, turned down a new deal with the club last week prompting speculation that Aston Villa and Sunderland would make offers for the Finland international.

But the player’s agent Peter Harrison confirmed there was no move in the offing.

He told the Daily Mail: “Jussi has decided that he is going to see out the final year of his contract and assess the situation after that.

“I’ve spoken to (manager) Sammy Lee and he is delighted.”
