Burton and Ryder to consider 'Beetlejuice' sequel

Winona Ryder is in talks with Tim Burton about starring in a 'Beetlejuice' sequel.

The 40-year-old actress played goth adolescent Lydia Deetz in the original 1988 comedy horror movie and she is set to meet the film's director next week to discuss the possibility of appearing in a follow up to the dark classic.

When asked if she is to star in the sequel, Winona told MTV News: "You tell me - I don't know! I've heard from journalists, that's how I found out, but I'm seeing Tim next week, and I will let you know."

Seth Grahame-Smith is currently writing a script, commissioned by Tim, for a possible sequel, but Winona insists that if a follow up movie is created then Michael Keaton is needed to reprise his role as main character Betelgeuse, a grotesque and perverted bio-exorcist who scares humans for other ghosts.

She added: "I'm trying to think about how that would work. Obviously I'm not [the focal point]; it's got to be Michael. So is it happening?

"It's being written, but is it happening? Tim hasn't confirmed it yet."

Tim recently revealed he would work on a sequel to 'Beetlejuice' - which also starred Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis as a young married couple who are killed in a car accident and become ghosts - if Seth's script is "interesting" enough.

When asked if he would consider becoming involved in a follow up to the original movie, he said: "If it was interesting. Although, I don't know if I would ever know a good script if it bit me in the face. But, I know what I like, so we'll see.

"Seth is writing something. I just told him, because it was something where I liked the character, he'd probably have a better response. He has ideas about it, so I just wanted to let him respond to it and see what he comes up with."
