Thompson blasts CIS Cup final linesman

Celtic star Alan Thompson hit out at linesman David Doig and claimed he cost them the first part of a quadruple.

Celtic star Alan Thompson hit out at linesman David Doig and claimed he cost them the first part of a quadruple.

Doig wrongly flagged John Hartson offside before he fired what should have been the equaliser in the Hoop's 2-1 CIS Insurance Cup final defeat to Rangers.

And Thompson joined manager Martin O'Neill in hitting out at Doig after television pictures showed the Welshman was a yard onside.

He snapped: "I hope the linesman goes home and realises he's made a huge error in an Old Firm cup final.

"I'm not saying he cost us the cup - be he definitely cost us a great chance of winning it.

"Had we made it 2-2 then I've no doubt we'd have gone on to beat them."
