Oxx swings towards Guineas tilt

Arch Swing appears likely to travel across the Irish Sea for the Stan James 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on Sunday.

Arch Swing appears likely to travel across the Irish Sea for the Stan James 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on Sunday.

John Oxx’s unbeaten filly has been given a provisional thumbs-up for the one-mile Classic after continuing to please her Currabeg handler over the past few days.

“She is an intended runner as everything seems well with her at the moment and things have gone well in recent days,” Oxx explained.

“If it remains that way up until Friday then she will be declared to run and we intend to go there.

“She would need to step up on her Leopardstown win and she’s had a setback since then, but she seems to have bounced over it well and we can’t fault her at the moment.

“We’ll let her take her chance and we’re very hopeful of a good run, but you could never be confident as none of them have raced that often.”

Oxx says it is hard to know where Arch Swing stands in relation to her rivals, but admits Finsceal Beo is sure to provide a very stern test to all her rivals.

“No-one knows what the pecking order is but Finsceal Beo looks very good,” he continued.

“After that we’re all just hoping we have something that is going to come up to that level.

“She certainly likes top of the ground but time will tell if the distance is right.

“Her pedigree can be read either way – you could say she’s sure to stay or you could say she’s sure not to.

“Her pedigree is ambiguous in that regard so we’ll have to wait and see. But we’re pretty hopeful she will get the trip.”

Arch Swing is available at 16-1 in places for Sunday’s feature but trades as low as 8-1 with Boylesports.
