Stephen Lee overcame illness to beat Chris Small and reach the second round of the Embassy World Championship.

The eighth seed lost his voice and was confined to bed for a couple of days with a chest infection last week.

But he defied the symptoms that remained to beat Small 10-7.

Lee was pegged back from 5-1 to 5-4 at the end of Monday's session and although he went 8-5 up, he was not firing on all cylinders. Small battled his way back to 9-7 down.

But when 42 points behind in frame 17, he caught a safety shot too thick and Lee cleared up to go through.
