Top seed Novak Djokovic battled past compatriot Viktor Troicki to book a quarter-final with local favourite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the Paris Masters this evening.
The Serbian world number one, who came into the tournament under an injury cloud, took a while to get into his stride, losing the first set before going on to beat his countryman 4-6 6-3 6-1.
He will next face Tsonga, who had life a little easier in beating Andreas Seppi of Italy 6-3 6-4.
Djokovic told www.atptour.com: "Jo is one of the home favourites and one of the crowd favourites.
"He is a great player, has a very powerful serve, and he kind of performs [with] as much as energy he gets from the crowd."
Second seed Andy Murray powered into the quarter-finals of the with a comprehensive 6-2 6-2 win over Andy Roddick.
The 24-year-old Scot dominated throughout to record his 27th win his last 28 matches and extend his unbeaten run to 18 matches.
Next up for the world number three is Tomas Berdych, who beat Janko Tipsarevic 7-5 6-4.
That result meant Berdych, Tsonga and Mardy Fish all qualified for the ATP World Tour Finals in London, with Tipsarevic the only player who could have denied them.
It was some welcome good news for seventh seed Fish, who was forced to withdraw with a left abductor injury when he was 2-1 up in the third set against Juan Monaco, meaning he could be a doubt for the London showdown.
Monaco will next place third seed and former world number one Roger Federer, who beat Richard Gasquet 6-2 6-4 in just 65 minutes.
Fourth seed David Ferrer of Spain was also a straight-sets winner, beating Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-3 6-2.
Ferrer will next face John Isner after the big American eased to a 6-4 6-2 win over Feliciano Lopez in the day's late match.
