Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti will travel to Berlin today to hold talks on the eurozone crisis with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The talks are also expected to focus on the latest economic developments in Europe.
It comes after Chancellor Merkel met with French President Nicholas Sarkozy in Berlin yesterday.
After the meeting, the leaders said they were making progress on a "fiscal compact" for closer convergence on economic policy in Europe to avoid future debt crises.
