This is the sort of film you feel awkward about laughing at. Let’s face it, suicide bombers are not the funniest of people.
Humanising them can be downright impossible, even by making them incompetent.
Yet this Brit comedy tackles the taboo subject with wit and authenticity (Morris spent several years researching the complex subject of terrorism, idealism and bonding) and though it has its flaws it does emerge as a sharply written and keenly observed look at a group of would-be Jihadists who plan, without really thinking it through, to bomb something, anything … just bomb it.
Omar (Ahmed) leads the group in what is essentially a screwball comedy that does a lot of talking about an uncomfortable subject.
