Carlow 2-17 Kerry 1-12
Kerry manager John Meyler called this a 'must win' game for his side, but they failed to deliver against a tenacious Carlow side at Dr. Cullen Park.
Having trailed by 1-08 to 1-07 at half-time, Carlow managed to pull away despite having Eddie Byrne and Craig Doyle sent-off. Two late points from Andrew Gaul got them over the finish line.
It was a second successive Division 2 win for Kevin Ryan's Carlow outfit, and the result has them third in the table. Kerry are seventh following their second defeat of the campaign.
The Barrowsiders led early on thanks to a Mark Brennan goal, but a scrambled goal from Kerry in the last attack of the first half moved them ahead.
After the dismissals of Byrne, who scored Carlow's second goal, and Doyle, the Kingdom struggled to make use of their two-man advantage, leaving their extra players in defence.
Brennan and Paudie Kehoe stepped up to the mark for Carlow on the day, and the full-back line of Alfie Corcoran, John O'Hara and Shane Kavanagh were particularly impressive.
