The value of Irish shares plummeted by almost 1.5% today, as the ISEQ index fell by 109.67 to 7505.87 by 10.50am.
The financials bore much of the brunt of the negative mood, with Allied Irish Bank the worst hit, down 40c to €15.95. Anglo Irish Bank was not far behind, shedding 38c to €10.75. Bank of Ireland (down 29c to €11.53) and Irish Life & Permanent (down 24c to €13.84) have had better days.
The worst loss of the day so far came for book make Paddy Power, which slumped 55c to €27.45. There were plenty of losses across the sectors however, including Irish Continental Group (down 25c to €25.75), FBD (down 20c to €24.05) and Kingspan (down 12c to €15.69).
C&C and CRH both fell 15c to 5.55 and €25.10 respectively.
Even Ryanair, despite announcing better-than-expected profits, fell 19c to €5.57.
There were some gains however for DCC (up 19c to €19.15) and Elan (up 15c to €16.25).
