Woods takes command

Tiger Woods took a stranglehold on the Wachovia Championship when he jumped into a three-shot lead halfway through the final round on Sunday.

Woods was at his brilliant best as he picked up four strokes in three holes, an eagle at the par-five seventh followed by birdies at the next two holes in breezy conditions at Quail Hollow.

The world number one reached the turn at 15 under, with Vijay Singh and Steve Stricker tied for second at 12 under.

Third-round leader Rory Sabbatini, playing with Woods, must have wondered what hit him.

Nine straight pars were not nearly good enough to keep pace and he remained 11 under at the turn.

Woods, making his first start since the US Masters, holed from 60 feet for his eagle and then from eight and 18 feet respectively to assume command of yet another event.
