Liverpool deny making contact with Carlo Ancelotti about manager role

A British newspaper is today reporting that Liverpool FC have made contact with Carlo Ancelotti, but the club have moved to deny the story.

A run of poor results has put pressure on existing manager Brendan Rodgers, now in his fourth season at the club.

So far this season, the team have eight points from a possible 18 in the Premier League and have managed to score just four goals.

The Daily Mail reports that management at the club are now exploring the possibility of replacing Rodgers with Ancelotti, who previously managed current Premier League champions Chelsea.

The Italian is currently on a sabbatical from management, after leaving Real Madrid at the end of the 2014/15 season.

He has had a trophy-laden career since winning the Intertoto Cup with Juventus in 1999, including winning the Premier League with Chelsea and the Champions League with both AC Milan and Real Madrid.

In the past hour, Liverpool have denied making any contact with Ancelotti, but that has done little to quell the rumours.

Today’s stories only serve to add pressure to Rodgers, whose side take on Carlisle tonight in the Capital One Cup.
