Williams have moved to strengthen their backroom staff in a bid to return to the front of the grid.
The former world champions have struggled for performance this year after their new car proved a disappointment.
As part of Williams’ plan to rebuild their reputation as Formula One’s premier engineering team, they have today announced the appointment of Jorg Zander as chief designer.
Zander, who will leave his post as BAR-Honda’s transmission specialist, will switch to Williams to work under the guidance of technical director Sam Michael.
Williams director of engineering Patrick Head said: “I am delighted that Jorg has decided to join Williams as chief designer, consolidating the process of restructuring Williams’ key technical posts.
“I believe we have set the foundation for one of the strongest technical teams in Formula One, and I have every confidence that Jorg will make a considerable contribution to our ambitions for next season and beyond.”
