Lansdowne 5 Ballymena 45

There was little to cheer for the home side on the main pitch at Lansdowne Road as Ballymena - marshalled by 20-point hero Paddy Wallace - ran out 45-5 winners in their AIB League Division One clash.

The Ulster squad member scored two tries and converted five of the Braidmen's seven tries in an impressive cameo.

Steph Nel's men had chalked up three of those by half-time as they emerged for the second half 21-5 in front. Lansdowne winger Rob McCarthy got them up-and-running following Wallace's two early intercept efforts.

On the restart, there was more of the same from Ballymena - who now sit sixth, and eight points behind the top four - as Dirkie Strydom wrapped up his two-try tally and fly-half Owen Edwards also grabbed a brace.

Marshall Humphreys bagged their seventh - a 20-metre dash -with three minutes remaining, as the Lansdowne defence looked down and out.

Scorers: Lansdowne: Try: Rob McCarthy

Ballymena: Tries: Paddy Wallace 2, Dirkie Strydom 2, Owen Edwards 2, Marshall Humphreys; Cons: Wallace 5
